The problem that America currently faces with North Korea will either never happen, or certainly not before 2008. As odd as it may seem, China is our greatest ally to keep Kim Jong Il under control or if need be, remove him altogether. China has a greater vested interest in the developments in North Korea than Americans give them credit for.

Beijing, China was awarded the 2008 summer Olympics under great controversy, but after many assurances from the Chinese government and the investment of billions of dollars into the games things seem to be advancing smoothly. China wants to use these games as a world platform to present the "new China" to the world. The Olympics will be their golden pedestal to show how much they have advanced.

If Kim Jong Il continues to be a threat to America, America will act. If there is a firefight in the Korean peninsula those games will be moved out of Asia so fast it will make China’s head spin. They will lose those billions of invested dollars and their platform.

When the UN drafted a resolution condemning the launch of Kim’s missiles China was the one hold out. They were steadfast against a clause that would include military involvement as a means to stop North Korea’s missile program and weapons development. A military involvement clause was present in Iraqi resolutions condemning Sadam, and the Chinese knew that we would use it if we needed to. China successfully stopped the inclusion of military use in the resolution. China knows that it will have deal with Kim Jong Il themselves because they are the only ones who can. They know what a threat he is to their big day. Kim Jong Il will be the first dictator ever removed from power due to poor ticket sales.
