"Response To The State Of The Union" - Stuart Samberg
Mr. President, ladies and gentlemen of Congress, members of the courts, and everyone else, the State of our Union is weak and becoming weaker by the day. We have real problems that need real solutions. I listened to President Bush give the State of Iraq address for 30 minutes. Honestly during the State of the Union address I could not give a rat’s behind about Iraq, Iran, or any other country that is not our own. Following this year’s speech I think the President should go to sending the Congressional members postcards to fulfill his Constitutional obligation. According to the Constitution, a speech of this magnitude is really not necessary! I truly appreciate the President’s idea that we can both cut taxes and increase spending while reducing the deficit. I would have to say this will be an extremely unsuccessful venture. However, if you read my

you would know that the FairTax would solve some of these problems. For instance, it would reduce the tax burden of every American while not having to worry about entitlements, and making tax cuts permanent.

I have to ask does anybody else think it is a bad idea to have a commission to study the effect of the “Baby Boom” generation on social security. In this case post hoc ergo propter hoc is true. There are a lot of baby boomers and therefore they will greatly affect the social security budget. Just another example of a liberal President wasting money. I refer you to Christopher Dulin’s
previous article
on nuclear power. I know the President did not just learn of this technology as he vastly referred to it in his 2002 State of the Union address and what have we done since then about it? Nothing! Finally Progress Energy and Duke Energy are trying to permit nuclear power plants but nothing has occurred until this time. The President mentioned clean coal more than nuclear energy. I think the recent tragedies in West Virginia should teach us about the dangers of coal mining, but I can not seem to recall one death from nuclear power in this nation’s history.

Ever feel that we are being invaded by another country right here at home? No, I am not talking about terrorists but illegal immigrants. I feel like that everyday when I see the illegal immigration problems that our country is having. Why do the President and the Congressional Republicans think the solution is to reward illegal immigrants for their trek and give them amnesty or a guest worker program?  We should deal with this problem using a simple mindset: illegal immigration is illegal. We should punish those who invade our country whether by military border patrols or – if they do make it inside our nation – vigorous law enforcement. We should not be rewarding these people in anyway, period!

I ask all Americans to not be blinded by the vast public relations push called the State of the Union address and truly sit back and think about our nation’s problems and their appropriate solutions.
