"Can You Tell Me How To Get To Sesame Street?" - Christopher R. Dulin
I remember children’s programming in the eighties. It seems very innocent now compared to the shows kids what these days. A few of them are still on air, but are not the same. I am hesitant to say that there is a liberal bias in children’s programming, but there is something going on.
For example, Bert and Ernie from Sesame Street two supposedly adult male characters that live together and seem to have a good time. I know I have heard this line of thinking before, I cannot remember where. I used to think the situation was very innocent, and it is from a child’s point of view; at least consciously. But if you really step back, it is clear that the writers of Sesame Street have subtly included homosexual themes into their show. I’m not really one hundred percent on this, but really? Come now.
Another instance of subtle political agendas being included in children’s programming are the Spanish-speaking shows like Dora the Explorer. Bilingual programming where children are invited to learn a little bit about Spanish seems ok. But the inoculation of kids against the past and future invasion of America by immigrants is the clear goal. If we become like Canada and have two languages on everything, fewer folks will have hold negative views of illegal immigration.
The politically correct terms used are also on the rise. For Example, you will never hear labels like handicapped to describe the wheelchair bound child on Barney; that child is physically-challanged. We are teaching children far too early that it is a mortal sin to ever offend anyone. Newspeak anyone?
Anyway, my point is that we should be watching out as we get older and begin having children. There is a movement on the rise to prepare our children far too early for thinking and acting according to a TV writer’s political agenda.
